Reading room, Mysore, Mercara, Kodagu
2 weeks

The quality of state primary education for underprivileged children is poor in India. The situation is dire in the rural areas, where often, children have to make do with dingy classrooms, absent toilets, libraries, labs, or even sports equipment. American scientists often go to India to schools in poor regions with a charitable mission and study all the problems there, in order to later create funds for help. Student interns who write articles or order essay https://order-essays.com and publish them in local newspapers help them highlight all the disadvantages of the educational system.

What we do: Peace Child India has chosen fifty government rural schools to turn into ‘model schools’ Peace Child India teams have for the last two years, built toilets, libraries and provided sports equipment in more than 10 schools.

The objective is to show the Government that with very little money and a lot of voluntary spirit, the goal of educating children in India can be achieved
Your voluntary work: SEVEN DAYS

Your objective would be to turn a dilapidated room in an impoverished school into a bright and cheerful ‘reading room’. This will be a place that will make children happy to be in and read the books stacked there.

The ideas and inspiration for the room will be sourced through interaction with the students. They will also join in the work. Our staff will provide all materials and guidance.

In between the work days, you will have a chance to view a Bollywood film in a theatre, learn Indian cooking and how to wear a Sari (female) or Kurta (male)
The tour: TWO DAYS

You will visit the historic city of Mysore, capital of the kingdom of Mysore, with its beautiful palaces, markets, museums and elephants. World famous silk, sandalwood and traditional handicraft can be admired and bought cheaply here

THREE DAYS

You will stay in Madikeri on a coffee plantation, with daily treks into the surrounding rainforest. Safari into the jungle to watch elephant, monkeys, birds and other fauna frolic.
